The George Street Pedestrian Plaza is the vibrant heart of the city’s outdoor activities, open through October 20. This lively space is perfect for a stroll, al fresco dining and soaking in the lively atmosphere. A major highlight of George Street this time of year is the live music. The New Brunswick Jazz Project hosts engaging performances at Tavern on George, featuring talented acts like the Richard Cortez Trio and Griffin Woodard Quartet, and New Brunswick City Center brings electrifying Latin rhythms to the street with performances from Tempo Alegre all throughout the summer.
On July 17, see George Street come alive with the Car Show featuring classic Mustangs and Thunderbirds, although all makes and models are welcome to cruise by in style. Then, on July 26, dive into the festive spirit with Christmas in July, a special event that brings holiday magic to summer with dunk tanks, Christmas music, sandcastle building and even more festive fun.
Adding an artistic flair to the cityscape are the renowned Seward Johnson sculptures. These lifelike bronze figures, created by the New Brunswick native, are thoughtfully placed along George Street and throughout the downtown City Center. Discover pieces like “Sidewalk Concert” and “Stormy Weather” as you explore, turning your walk into a delightful art tour. Don’t forget to snap a selfie with your favorite sculpture and share it using #NBStatue and #SewardJohnson for a chance to win gift cards to local businesses!
“Summer in New Brunswick City Center is about more than just visiting; it’s about making memories,” said Executive Director Pamela Stefanek. “Whether it’s a new dish during Restaurant Week, tapping your foot to live music, each moment adds to our vibrant story. There’s something for everyone, come experience the magic!”
