DFSCNJ Brings Confidence Building Workshops and Clothing to Victims of Domestic Abuse
Lawrenceville, NJ (6/8/23) – Dress for Success Central NJ (DFSCNJ) is pleased to announce its partnership with the Family Justice Centers (FJC) in both Middlesex and Monmouth Counties. Dress for Success, whose mission is to empower women by building confidence through work and life skills workshops, as well as providing appropriate attire for work, court or any professional opportunity will be working with both Centers to bring its services to women who are victims of domestic abuse.
DFSCNJ’s partnership with the Middlesex County is working with Women Aware at FJC, an organization that helps women move beyond abuse. Earlier this year, DFSCNJ was delighted to establish its fourth satellite office at Women Aware in New Brunswick. This satellite office is a replica of DFSCNJ’s main office, complete with Image Enhancement Boutique where women have access to professional attire, accessories, shoes, handbags and jewelry to help them present their best self to bolster self-esteem and confidence.
The Monmouth County FJC is anchored by 180 Turning Lives Around, an organization that provides programs and services to victims of domestic and sexual violence. DFSCNJ has launched a six-month series of workshops that will cover topics such as Presenting Your Best Self, Emotional Intelligence, Confidence, Advocating for Yourself, and more. All women will be fitted with an entire outfit, including accessories.
“After their crisis needs are met, Dress for Success is there to help the survivors regain the power that was stolen from them. Our goal is for the survivors to learn to believe in themselves again, recognize that they have the ability to shape their circumstances and have the confidence to advocate for themselves and their families. We want them to know they are heard and that they matter,“ says Nancy Musco, Program & Community Engagement Manager at DFSCNJ.
“I am thrilled to have Dress for Success Central New Jersey as one of our partners; their presence at the Middlesex County FJC is a welcome asset. Watching survivors’ happy and confident expressions, as they are fitted in professional outfits for court or a job interview, is truly heartwarming. Dress for Success empowers survivors as they move forward in their journey of healing and triumph,” says Mildred Torres, Director, Middlesex County Family Justice Center.
Melissa Tenzer, CEO, DFSCNJ states, “Domestic abuse survivors need the community to rally together with a multitude of services. We play a part with Women Aware to build women back up in confidence, education and the healing process to help the woman know her worth and value as an individual and to the community.”
DFSCNJ offers an innovative continuum of job-readiness programs designed to address the limitation poverty imposes on women struggling to support themselves and their families. Personalized programs support clients through every stage of their employment journey – from pre-employment job searches to post-employment professional development. DFSCNJ has served over 18,500 women and girls in Central New Jersey since 2007.
