The interactive Discussion Moderated by Government Affairs Committee Chair\, Bill Neary. \nAbout Our Featured Speaker: Freeholder Leslie Koppel\, Middlesex County \nMiddlesex County Freeholder Leslie Koppel chairs the County’s Finance Committee. Freeholder Koppel was appointed to the Board of Chosen Freeholders on Feb. 16\, 2017. She is committed to improving the quality of life for all residents and to provide them with affordable programs and services. Freeholder Koppel is a lifelong resident of Monroe Township. She earned her Master’s Degree in Politics and Public Policy at the Bloustein School at Rutgers University and her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology at Hunter College. Even before her time as a Freeholder\, Freeholder Koppel showed a dedication to public service. She served as Monroe Township Council President and Councilwoman At-Large since 2006. During her tenure on the Council\, Freeholder Koppel served on the Cultural Arts Commission and on the Middlesex County Transportation Coordinating Committee. In addition to her public service as a member of the Township Council\, Freeholder Koppel has served as former President of the Barclay Brook/Brookside Schools PTA and as a member of the Monroe Township Board of Education Ad Hoc and Strategic Planning Committees. She has also served as Chair of the Mercer County Human Service Advisory Committee. \nCurrently\, Freeholder Koppel is the Director of Rise – a Community Service Partnership\, a non-profit community organization that provides social services and support in the East Windsor and Hightstown area. The interactive Discussion Moderated by Government Affairs Committee Chair\, Bill Neary. \nAbout Our Featured Speaker: Freeholder Charles Tomaro\, Middlesex County \nMiddlesex County Freeholder Charles E. Tomaro chairs the County’s Infrastructure Management Committee. Freeholder Tomaro’s accomplishments reflect his history of dedication to the community and his ongoing goal to improve the quality of life for the residents of Middlesex County. \nA long-time Middlesex County resident\, Freeholder Tomaro attended both Middlesex County College and Rutgers University. He is a businessman as well as a public servant\, working for Clayton Block and Concrete Company in the Keasbey section of Woodbridge\, New Jersey. \nFreeholder Tomaro’s experience in government dates back to his time as a Councilman of the Township of Edison (1996-2007 and 2010-2011)\, where he served as Council President (1999-2000\, 2007 and 2010) and Council Vice President (1997-1998). As a member of the Council\, he negotiated Edison’s purchase of 36 acres of farmland for open space\, and the acquisition of the 11-acre Oakcrest Swim Club\, including its pool\, basketball and tennis courts and its ball fields. He worked with local residents to build a skatepark\, so residents would have a safe place to skateboard; as a Freeholder he would go on to lead efforts to renovate this park. The interactive Discussion Moderated by Government Affairs Committee Chair\, Bill Neary. \nAbout Our Featured Speaker: Mayor Francis Womack\, North Brunswick \nFrancis M. Womack III was first sworn in as Mayor of North Brunswick Township on January 1\, 2004 and is currently serving in his fifth term as Mayor. Prior to being elected Mayor\, Womack served on the Township Council from 2000 to 2004. \nWomack is a practicing attorney specializing in insurance defense litigation in the areas of the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act\, the Non-Appropriated Funds Instrumentalities Act\, and the Defense Base Act. He also represents clients on criminal and NJ Land Use matters. Womack received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1978 from the University of South Alabama and his Juris Doctor degree in 1984 from the University of Baltimore School of Law. \nMayor Womack serves on the Salvation Army Advisory Board in New Brunswick as well as on the PRAB (Puerto Rican Action Board) Board of Trustees. \nWomack’s wife\, Carol\, works as a Social Worker for Middlesex County. Together they have 3 children – Allison\, Carol Lee\, Mackie\, and a son-in-law\, Anthony. Their three children all attended and benefited greatly from the excellent education they received through the North Brunswick public school system. The Mayor began his public career in 2010 when he was elected to the East Brunswick Board of Education. He was named Board President in 2014 and helped select the new Superintendent of Schools.
